Losing her mother at age eight, and later obtaining the small book "Home to Him's Muvver" written early in the last century by Margaret Prescott Montague, she identified with the little girl who always ended her stories "and he went home to him's If another told and ended a story with the traditional "and they lived happily ever after" she would become wide eyed and ask, "Didn't they go home to him's muvver?" This explains her lifelong use of the word "muvver" The possession of this little book was but one way her loss in life of not having had a mother while growing up was expressed. Another was evidenced in poetry in speaking of her mother.
